Polanoid
polanoid “We are building the biggest Polaroid-picture-collection of the planet to celebrate the magic of instant photography.” Neat. See also Ground Glass Photography. P.S. Anybody know where I can get Polaroid film really cheap?
Welcome
Welcome to the new Swirlee. If you’ve visited Swirlee in the last nine months or so, you probably found it on hiatus. Now Swirlee is back in full-featured form, complete with feeds, archives, comments, tags, and so on. It’s still not 100% complete (be gentle!), but most of the functionality you expect in a blog is present.
Of course, a lot has happened on the web since the last time I designed a full-fledged blog, and I have lifted more than a few pages from some of my favorite blogs, including (but by no means limited to, nor in any particular order) Painfully Obvious, kottke.org, Projectionist, and Anarchaia. I also owe a lot to the developers of WordPress and the writers of several plugins, most especially Ultimate Tag Warrior.
Thank you for stopping by. Please leave a comment if you have any opinions about the new Swirlee. Expect lots of refinements in the near future, plus lots of great content.

Arduino
Arduino An amazing little controller board for your electronics projects that fits in the palm of your hand. Arduino interfaces via USB and is controlled by the Java-based Processing/Wiring language(s). You can build one by hand from the free schematics or order a pre-built board for $25. Lots of features, and they’re working on Bluetooth and Ethernet versions, too.
do not call
do not call Ze Frank’s techniques for dealing with telemarketers. “2. In an outrageously excited tone: ‘Thank god you called!!!’ Explain that an online psychic told you that your future lover would randomly call disguised as an asshole.” (P.S. What is your power move?)

900 full-length cartoons on YouTube
900 full-length cartoons on YouTube A mega-list of links to complete episodes of classic and contemporary cartoons on YouTube. Animaniacs, Gummi Bears, Beavis and Butt-head, Rocko’s Modern Life, and much more. Oh, and something called “Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos.”
overplot
overplot Quotes from Overheard in New York overlayed on a Google Maps view of Manhattan. Notes on the technical implementation will be of interest to fellow geeks. (via Waxy.org)
has_and_belongs_to_none
has_and_belongs_to_none There are geek shirts, and then there are geek shirts. If not for the fact that nobody outside a Ruby on Rails conference would get it, I would declare :"ceci n'est pas un string" and validates_presence_of :bling instant classics. (via RedHanded)

Extroverted Like Me
Extroverted Like Me Slate writer Seth Stevenson went on Paxil for a 45 days in an attempt to curb his introversion. It wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. (via kottke.org)
Photos of North Korea
A bunch of photographs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea taken by Russian designer Art Lebedev. Very, very surreal. Make sure to click through to the second page.
The Deep Sky Frontier
The Deep Sky Frontier A really, really, really big web site. “At 77 pixels to the inch, this page takes up 3.4e18 square miles and is 1.844 billion miles on a side … That’s about 17 billion times the surface area of the Earth.”

diesel sweeties #1516
“There are only two kinds of people in this world. One wants to travel back in time to get drunk with pirates. The other simply wants to travel back in time to see what color dinosaurs really were.” — diesel sweeties #1516
