Reports of Garfield’s death greatly exaggerated Garfield cartoonist Jim Davis has refuted speculation that the cartoon cat is slowly starving to death in an abandoned house. The October, 1989 comic strips were simply a Halloween scare. Still, I’ll never be able to look at Garfield the same way again.
