Wikipedia: Feynman point
Wikipedia: Feynman point
The Feynman point comprises the 762nd through 767th decimal places of π, consisting of the digit 9 repeated six times. … The name refers to a remark made by the physicist Richard Feynman, expressing a wish to memorise the digits of π as far as that point so that when reciting them, he would be able to end with ‘… nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, and so on.’
Also: Do NOT convert pi to binary.

Three Scrabble world records broken
Three Scrabble world records broken On October 12, Michael Cresta, a carpenter and low-ranked Scrabble player, broke three Scrabble world records in a church basement in Lexington, Mass. He and his opponent, Wayne Yorra set new records for most points in a game by one player—830—the most total points in a game—1,320—and the most points on a single turn. Cresta got 365 points for a triple-triple on the word “quixotry.”
“Looking at the game as a whole, it’s clear that a lack of expertise created the conditions for the record,” says championship player Stefan Fatsis. You can see a complete play-by-play of the game at cross-tables.com. (via kottke.org)

Ugly Overload An antidote to the ever-lovable Cute Overload, this blog only posts pictures of ugly animals like this rosy-lipped batfish. Personally, I think this proboscis monkey is kind of cute, in a little old man sort of way. And don’t get me started on the echidna. (via Boing Boing)
