I realize they’re trying to be funny here and not necessarily intellectually rigorous, but the idea that God allows natural disasters (and by extension, evil itself) so that people will doubt his existence and have to come to him by faith is a bit of a straw man. There may be some theists out there who take that stance, but I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near a majority view.
This is not to say The Problem of Evil isn’t a big problem. It is. I just think there are better answers to it. These guys are making fun of one of the obviously simplistic answers and thereby implying that theists are foolish because that’s the best explanation they can come up with. Just my $0.02.
