This is a tricky question to answer, because I tend to leave things behind after I’m done making them. There are very few things I’ve made that I look back at and think, “I really like what I did there.” The things I could have done better—and there’s always something—tend to loom larger in my memory than the things I did “right.” Furthermore often I feel like my successes are accidental, though I know intellectually that that kind of “luck” wouldn’t necessarily come to me without the skills I’ve cultivated.
An idea is always more perfect in my head than I could ever execute it in reality, which is why I so often have a hard time executing— that is, because I know my actions could never live up to my vision.
That said, I do have a few favorite photos. The two of Roxy that hang in our bedroom, the one of Joanna’s legs that I had framed (but haven’t hung yet). I’ve taken some photos lately that I like very much (of you, Jackie, and Mara) but the experience of making those images is too fresh in my mind for me to decide how to feel about them.
