A brilliant tragicomic animation by Tomek Baginski.
The Amazing Screw-On Head is an animated pilot the Sci-Fi Channel is running on its web site. It says: In this hilarious send-up of Lovecraftian horror and steampunk adventure, President Abraham Lincoln’s top spy is a bodyless head known only as Screw-On Head.
Hokey though that sounds, I just watched it, and it’s flat-out fantastic. The animation is gorgeous, the dialogue is snappy and, at the risk of sounding like a movie blurb, laugh-out-loud funny, and the voice acting by Paul Giamatti (as the titular hero), David Hyde Pierce (as the villain, Emperor Zombie), and Molly Shannon (as Emperor Zombie’s vampire lover Patience) is excellent. The pilot is an adaptation of the single-issue comic of the same name by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and looks fairly faithful.
I heartily urge you to watch the pilot (it’s free at SciFi.com, or you can obtain it via other means), and, if you enjoy it as much as I did, fill out the survey at the Sci-Fi web site so they’ll turn it into a regular series.
PIKA PIKA is an amazing blog combining light painting and stop-motion animation. The results are jaw-dropping—I’m especially fond of this little marching horse. (via Street Tech)
Human Space Invaders A really clever stop-motion recreation of Space Invaders using people as pixels. Scroll down for the video. (French site—Google translation here.)
